If you’re passionate about basketball and eager to compete at a higher level, forming an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball team can be an exciting venture.

However, navigating the registration process can seem daunting without proper guidance. In this article, we’ll break down the essential steps required to register your AAU basketball team.

Exactly How to Register your AAU Basketball Team:

Before I begin, I wrote an article about the essential steps you will need to take to effectively start an AAU basketball team. If you missed that article, please check it out here!

  1. Go to https://aauboysbasketball.org/.
  2. Click on “Join AAU” in the upper right hand corner, as shown below.

3. Click on “Get a Membership“.

4. Click on “Non-Athlete or Adult Athlete Membership“. This will allow you to create an AAU account.

5. This will take you to a page with a bunch of drop down fields. It looks like the image below.

6. In this step, we are still completing a membership for a coach or team volunteer. Select “I am signing up for myself.

7. Select “Non-athlete, coaches, officials, etc (ADULTS ONLY).

8. You might get a little hung up on a few questions so I put a screenshot below. If you are the coach or one of the team managers you should select the “Youth Program” and “Boys Basketball”.

There are fees associated with signing up for an adult membership. The coverage cost is currently $55 for a regular membership or $57 for the extended membership per season. These both essentially cover the cost of the membership, the insurance and the background check.

The Difference between Regular and Extended Membership Fees:

The primary difference between the regular and extended membership is essentially where the coach is covered for insurance purposes. The regular coverage includes all AAU sanctioned tournaments and the extended coverage covers the coach/volunteer at all non-AAU events. There are other details so please refer to the AAU website for complete details.

Registering Your AAU Basketball Team:

If you have made it this far you have successfully signed up for AAU basketball and registered yourself as a coach. Great job!

9. The final step is starting to register your team. To register your AAU basketball team, simply retrace the above steps but this time click on “Create Youth Membership”.

Conclusion:

Following the steps outlined in this article, you’ve laid a solid foundation for your team’s success both on and off the court.

With determination and passion, your AAU basketball team is poised to make a meaningful impact within the competitive landscape of youth basketball. So, lace up your sneakers, hit the hardwood, and let your journey begin.
