Can you Play AAU Basketball at the Age of 8? (everything you need to know)

Yes, players can participate in AAU basketball at age 8 The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) provides basketball opportunities for a wide range of age groups, including 8-year-olds.

Age eligibility is determined by the specific divisions within each tournament or league. As long as a player fits the age requirements for their desired division, they are eligible to compete in AAU basketball at age 8.

According to AAU, in order to play 8U the player must be no older than 8 on or before August 31 of the basketball season. In other words if an 8 year old turns 9 on September 1st of the basketball season he or she is eligible. If the player turns 9 on August 31, that player is ineligible to play in the 8U category.

This allows players to continue their basketball development and competitive experience within the AAU framework as they approach adulthood. It’s worth noting that AAU basketball provides a platform for players to showcase their skills, compete at a higher level, and potentially attract attention from college recruiters or professional scouts. Therefore, 8-year-old players looking to further their basketball aspirations can find valuable opportunities within the AAU system.
