What Is It Called When You Dribble With Two Hands (in basketball)?

When a player dribbles with two hands at the same time it is called a “double dribble”. This is a violation in the rules of basketball. The referee calls a “double dribble” violation almost anytime a player dribbles the ball with two hands.

There is one exception to this rule. A player can always start their dribble with two hands. You can read more about this here.

The “double dribble” violation is very commonly known as being associated with a player using two hands to dribble the ball.

When it comes to basketball, dribbling is one of the most fundamental skills that every player must learn. The ability to dribble the ball effectively and efficiently is essential for advancing the ball up the court and creating scoring opportunities. One of the most common techniques used in dribbling is called the crossover dribble, which involves using one hand to dribble the ball and then quickly switching to the other hand to continue the dribble. However, there are times when using just one hand to dribble is not enough, and that is when players may employ a technique called “dribbling with two hands.”

Dribbling with two hands is exactly what it sounds like: the player uses both hands to dribble the ball simultaneously. This technique is often used by young or inexperienced players who are trying to protect the ball from defenders or when they need to quickly change direction–I see this alot with my younger players just learning how to play.

Double dribbling is a violation in basketball that occurs when a player dribbles the ball with both hands at the same time.

A double dribble is not only a violation called on players who use two hands to dribble the ball. This violation can also be called on players who stop their dribble and then start dribbling again with both hands. This is considered a violation because it breaks the basic rules of dribbling.

The rules of dribbling in basketball are straightforward. A player must dribble the ball with only one hand at a time and cannot hold the ball or palm it while dribbling. Additionally, once a player stops their dribble by catching or holding the ball, they cannot start dribbling again without first passing, shooting, or moving both feet. If a player violates any of these rules, they are committing a violation called a “traveling” violation.

Double dribbling is a common mistake that many players make, especially younger or less experienced players. However, it is also a violation that can have serious consequences in a game. If a player commits a double dribbling violation, the opposing team is awarded possession of the ball, and the violating player may be subject to a turnover.

It is important for players to understand the rules of dribbling and to practice their dribbling skills regularly. By mastering the art of dribbling with one hand, players can become more effective at moving the ball up the court and creating scoring opportunities.

In addition to double dribbling, there are several other types of dribbling violations in basketball that players should be aware of. These include carrying, palming, and traveling violations. Carrying occurs when a player moves the ball by allowing it to come to rest in their hand or by scooping it with their fingers. Palming occurs when a player holds the ball with their palm while dribbling or while moving.
